Submit your recipes to Local Welcome
After months of mashing chickpeas, soaking bulgar wheat and flipping rostis the time has come at last…we have two shiny new menus for when we get back around the table.
By listening to the feedback you shared on our first menu and designing two new ones, we have learned loads more about what makes the perfect Local Welcome recipe.
If you’ve been holding onto a recipe idea of your own, now’s the time to tell us about it! But before you do, here’s what you need to know:
What makes a Local Welcome recipe?
Our recipes are nutritious. They contain fresh ingredients.
Our recipes give us plenty to do with our hands while we talk to new people. They include actions like grating and mashing.
Our recipes are a part of a menu. The recipes in the menu are all savoury and compliment each other, to create a filling main meal.
Make sure your recipe fits our most important criteria:
We don’t cook meat or fish at our meals. It is important to us that people with religious and cultural dietary needs are included in our meals. As a bonus, it also makes arranging the food hygiene side of things a lot more simple :-)
We don’t allow any of the following allergens at our meals: fish, crustaceans, peanuts, tree nuts and wine. We clearly highlight any other allergens present at our meals. It is important to us that people with allergies feel safe and be included.
Our recipes take 40 minutes to prepare and cook. We don’t want the meal to run over time or for anyone to have to sit about twiddling their thumbs!
Our recipes are made using the equipment available in our boxes. Our kit includes induction hobs, frying pans, boiling pans, stirring spoons, turning tongs, vegetable peelers, chopping knives, garlic crushers, graters, measuring cups, sieves and can openers.
When will my recipe be ready to submit?
Ready when you have:
Outlined the ingredients and quantities (based on portions for two people)
Written the recipe steps
Uploaded a photo of what the finished recipe looks like (if possible!)
We are only looking for individual recipes, not a whole menu. Although, if you have the time, and a delicious spread of three recipes in mind - then go ahead!
How do I submit:
Email the ingredients, quantities, recipe steps and photos to events@local-welcome.org The deadline for submissions is Sunday 27th September.
We can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with - just thinking about it is making us peckish!
