Bringing additional food to our meals

Lots of leaders and members want to bring their own food to Local Welcome meals. We get it! This is a lovely and natural response.

But we can’t allow you to bring your own food to Local Welcome meals. Sorry.

The main reason is that it exposes us to too many risks around food safety and food hygiene. We work closely with food safety people to make sure that it’s OK for us to cook raw ingredients with people because we know it works well. It’s not easy to get approval to do this! So it’s important that we control what ingredients we use - and we lose all of that control when people start bringing their own food to our meals.

The other reason is that we’re trying to design meals that work for every person, in every city, on every weekend. If people start bringing their own food to our meals then we won’t learn what is wrong with the food we are already making! And all our meals will suffer because we won’t be improving quickly enough.

So please don’t bring your own food to Local Welcome meals. Thank you.

We welcome feedback and questions on everything that we do. We know we’re not always right. So tell us what you think about this on events@local-welcome.org.
