Cook and Eat

  • St Mark's Church Kennington Park Road, (Opposite Oval Tube Station) SE11 4PW London (map)

Joining a Local Welcome meal is a fun and easy way to connect with refugees and older people in your community.

We bring people together to cook and eat a simple meal while sharing their stories.

What happens?

When you arrive, you'll be asked to take a seat at a table which you'll share with other local people and refugees. Your table leader will guide you through a simple recipe while asking everyone on the table questions like 'what's the best meal you've ever had?', so you can get to know each other a little better. By the end, you'll have cooked a delicious lunch, which you'll then eat together.

Is it for me?

Yes! Everyone is welcome and no cooking skills are required.

What's the cost?

It's free to join a meal, although we gladly accept donations towards the cost of food and equipment.

How do I join?

Easy! Just click the image on the left to book your place.

"I leave every Local Welcome meal with a smile on my face. It's an amazing way to spend time with people who you wouldn't normally meet. It's always fun and relaxed, there's no 'us' and 'them', just lovely people around a table getting to know one another." - Claire, Derby.

"I’ve been here for two years and this is the first time I forgot I was a refugee." - Aham, Acton.
